Umm, could I get some access to this page, or could h0bbel do it for me? I'd like to add the Gallery 2:Installation|Preinstaller category and remove the redundant header. -- Zimzat 19:54, 11 July 2006 (PDT)

Please add this to the FAQ of the Preinstaller

1. The need to change permissions is documented on this page, but is missing from the README that comes with the pre-installer.

"Use your FTP program to change the permissions of the folder where preinstall.php is in to 777 (read+write+execute permission for everybody)."

2. Should note that if the permissions are not set correctly, the preinstall.php page will appear to just hang.

3. I could never get the preinstaller to download the package. Instead, I downloaded the package and then uploaded it to my web server. I then renamed it to gallery2.tar.gz and the preinstaller picked it up. It might be good to document this as another way to use the preinstaller.

Some web hosting services (Aplus is one) do not allow your web server to initiate outgoing connections. Thus the pre-install cannot get to the download site. I also followed your advice to get the install package to my web host and just skip the first step of the pre-installer. It worked fine.

How can I upload a theme or module via FTP when I used the preinstaller?

added a cross reference to the existing G2 FAQ entry, yours seemed to be a 1:1 copy of it. --Valiant 19:53, 20 December 2006 (PST)
