Current revision of the Basic Uses document: File:Basic uses 1.pdf
pg5. "Downloading" I simplified the procedure by just having users go to http://galleryproject.org/
pg 3: I need to explain what "server" and "client" mean
and clarify that the client just needs the text editor and FTP software.
pg9. "initial procedures": Explain the process of connecting to an FTP client or point users to a good URL for doing so.
> pg14. "system checks"
Explain more and/or provide links to what users should do if things don't work.
Specifically, if .htaccess based changes
to php.ini files are blocked by hosting providers, users may need to actually edit a php.ini file or talk to their provider. I'll study the information on http://codex.galleryproject.org/Gallery2:Installation_Requirements#PHP_Settings. I may provide this link, but I haven't decided yet.
Revise description of "output buffering." Explain what should the user do if they don't have new enough PHP and it's
their computer.
Provide a link to an online resource for win/mac/linux.
Explain that localization support is only required for other languages, so they
don't need to fix that warning if they just use English.
Provide a link to an online resource here if they are on their
own server.
> pg 17. storage setup #3: Specifically recommend that g2data be outside of the web root for security reasons like is done in the installer. Recommend that users see http://codex.galleryproject.org/Gallery2:Security#What_does_web-accessible_mean_.2F_what_is_the_document_root.3F
> pg 18. "octal" [I've made some progress on this part, but I need to revise] I'll explain what octal is.
> pg 21. database setup: Point users with their own server and/or who don't know mysql to online docs.
pg 22 "create a config file": Eliminate the part where I specify as the file contents that are actually the commands that one runs on linux to make a file and set the permissions on it.
Instruct the user to simply create a blank file, upload it, and set the permissions on it.
pg 27. install plugins: provide a URL to "our forums" when I mention them.
pg 27. install plugins: Redo the descriptions using http://codex.galleryproject.org/Gallery2:Modules:archiveupload and the codex pages.
Use "Gallery" instead of database
