valiant: need to edit the last addition / section. most of it just refers to "how to install a multisite" and the last part is covered by the g1 -> g2 migration. so it's rather confusing since it's not as complete as the dedicated docs. probably just replace most of it with links to dedicated docs and reduce it to quite short instructions.

install codebase or just copy it to server?

The instuctions at seem to imply that the codebase doesn't need to be installed, merely copied to the server at the relevant webspace.

Is this actually the case? Must I first set up a complete normal install and use that as the codebase, or can I simply upload the G2 files as if I were going to set up a site and not install it?

If I don't actually install it, what must I do in order to secure the install files so that someone can't come along and screw my codebase?

Yes, these instructions are correct. You don't need to install a normal Gallery2 in the codebase location, just copy the gallery2 folder to the server. The install/, upgrade/ ... folders are all secured by login.txt, no need to worry. --Valiant 05:09, 3 December 2006 (PST)

Unsuccesful standalone -> multisite migration

I just tried the procedure, where I keep the codebase and move the existing install to a new url (the second 'A)'). When I try to log in with admin account, I get redirected to the codebase, which now does not have a config.php so it redirects me to the installer.

Before situation:

  • codebase: /usr/local/www/gallery2, url: /photos/ (Apache Alias)

After situation:

  • codebase: /usr/local/www/gallery2, url: /photos/
  • site: /usr/local/www/virtual/, url: /pictures/

Example from the source:

  • <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="themes/floatrix/theme.css"/>

Problem seems to be that g->theme doesn't include the base url, even though it is correctly set in the config.php. Version: 2.2.3. Am I missing something obvious?--Mdev 05:04, 3 December 2007 (PST)

    • Yep, I did. Had to run lib/support/index.php and clean out the cache to solve the display problem.
    • However, logins still direct me to /photos/install/. Any solution? --Mdev 05:56, 3 December 2007 (PST)
