Configuring Per-Album Settings

Gallery allows you to configure some theme settings for indiviual albums within your collection. You can choose whether or not you apply these settings to subalbums if an album contains them.

  • To configure settings for an individual album:
  1. Login to Gallery as an administrator. You'll need to do this so that you can edit the album that you want to configure
  2. Browse to the album you want to configure the settings for
  3. Choose the Edit Album link in the sidebar to edit the album you are currently viewing, or select Edit Album from the Item Actions dropdown list (if you have it displayed) to edit a sub-album
  4. You will be taken to the Gallery Item Administration screen. Here you can make changes to the settings available
  5. When you are happy with the settings for the album, click the Save button at the bottom of the screen to save your changes
  6. If you want to reset the settings to their original values, click the Reset button at the bottom of the screen

Settings Available

Sort Order

This setting allows you to change the way that items are sorted within an album, for example whether they are sorted alphabetically by caption, or chronologically by the date they were created. Plugins may add extra sorting options, for example the ratings plugin adds the ability to sort by rating.

The standard sort options are:

  • default sort order - sorts the album as specified in the sitewide settings in the Site Admin screen
  • Manual sort order - allows you to order the items in any way you want
  • Title - sorts the items in the album by title
  • Summary - sorts the items by summary
  • Origination Date - sorts items by the date they were created (i.e. the date a photo was taken, movie was filmed, etc)
  • Creation Date - sorts items by the date they were added to the album
  • Last Changed Date - sorts items by how recently they have been changed
  • Description - sorts the items by their description
  • Keywords - sorts items by their keywords
  • Name - sorts the items by name
  • View Count - sorts the items by the number of views they have had
  • Random - sorts items randomly

Once you have selected a sort order other than default or manual you will be able to set sort direction and presort in the dropdown lists next to sort order:

  • Sort direction determines whether you want items sorted in ascending order (A-Z, 0-9) or descending' order (Z-A, 9-0)
  • Presort allows you to have more control over the sort order
    • Albums first will list subalbums within an album first once they have been sorted
    • Most viewed first will list the most viewed items first in an album once they have been sorted
  • Apply to all subalbums will apply the sort settings to all subalbums in the current album
